WHO global research priorities for antimicrobial resistance in human health

  11 September 2024

The World Health Organization (WHO) has set 40 research priorities for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) by 2030, focusing on bacterial and fungal pathogens, including drug-resistant pathogens causing tuberculosis. These priorities cover prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and addressing knowledge gaps in AMR epidemiology, burden, policies, regulations, and awareness. The priorities were identified through a multistage process, including scoping reviews, surveys, and open calls. The ultimate goal is to encourage research and investment in evidence generation to understand AMR dynamics and facilitate policy translation.
