There is urgent need for a Global Data Resource for Antimicrobial PK/PD: CAMO-Net GDR Initiative
A new Nature Communications paper calls for the urgent creation of a Global Data Resource (GDR) to collect, standardise, and share worldwide pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) data for antimicrobials. The authors, part of the CAMO-Net consortium, argue that fragmented and incomplete data—especially from low- and middle-income countries and vulnerable populations—hinder optimal antibiotic dosing and fuel antimicrobial resistance. The proposed GDR would securely integrate clinical, genomic, and usage data within a FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Re-usable) framework using trusted research environments and shared governance. Such a resource would enable precision dosing, better treatment outcomes, reduced toxicity, and slower resistance development, ultimately strengthening global AMR control and supporting more equitable and data-driven antimicrobial use worldwide.
