Restaurants, Risk and Resistance: Addressing Antimicrobial Resistance in Quick-Service Restaurant Supply Chains

The Phase 2 Progress Report from FAIRR’s Restaurant Antibiotics Engagement reviews how 12 major North American quick-service restaurant companies are addressing the risk of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in their animal protein supply chains by adopting antibiotic policies that align with global public-health guidance; the engagement, backed by investors representing nearly US $9 trillion in assets, assesses corporate disclosure, policy scope and implementation progress across key proteins and highlights that while some companies are beginning to improve transparency and set targets, overall progress on comprehensive antibiotic stewardship policies remains limited — underscoring the need for stronger commitments and action to reduce reliance on antibiotics in livestock production to mitigate AMR risk.
