New European Partnership on One Health AMR: €253 million for research and innovation against antimicrobial resistance

  30 September 2025

The European Union has launched the One Health AMR (OHAMR) Partnership, a 10-year initiative with a budget of €253 million (including €75 million from Horizon Europe) to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through a One Health approach that integrates human, animal, and environmental health. Coordinated by the Swedish Research Council and involving 53 organisations from 30 countries, the partnership will fund transnational research, strengthen capacities, promote policy translation, and improve data sharing to curb the growing global AMR crisis, which already causes over 35,000 deaths annually in the EU and 1.27 million worldwide. Building on earlier efforts like JPIAMR and aligning with the EU One Health Action Plan, OHAMR consolidates and expands Europe’s leadership in AMR research and innovation, supporting new solutions and market uptake to safeguard public health, health systems, and economies.
