Combined Forces Against Bacteria: Phages and Antibiotics
This study explores the therapeutic potential of phage-antibiotic synergy (PAS) in combating bacterial infections. PAS has shown promising results in restoring susceptibility of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria, facilitating biofilm degradation, and minimizing antibiotic doses. However, challenges like resistance and antagonistic interactions remain. Key factors influencing PAS efficacy include phage and antibiotic dosing, timing of administration, and the bacteria’s physiological state. Further research is needed to standardize protocols, optimize therapeutic combinations, and address safety concerns.
