Call for papers: Integrative approaches to antimicrobial resistance
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a serious public health issue which leads to increased time spent in hospital, increased mortality and associated economic costs. Effective antimicrobial medicines are essential for conducting surgical procedures and many other health care practices. Many of these antimicrobial medicines are used in livestock farming and for many non-life threatening conditions which contribute to AMR. In human healthcare, many people use antibiotics to treat viral infections or conditions which would resolve over time.
The WHO calls for a One Health approach which involves stakeholders from all sectors and disciplines since AMR will affect everyone regardless of health condition. Interestingly, many whole medical systems, for instance anthroposophic medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, have developed clinical practices that make use of far less antibiotics than modern medicine. Therefore is great potential for discovering strategies to counter AMR in the field of integrative medicine (IM) and the complementary therapies that are used. This special issue on AMR and IM is an attempt to bring together a varied palette research papers showing the effect of integrative medicine strategies to counter AMR.
We invite submissions! All research methods are allowed: clinical trials, systematic reviews, case reports, pragmatic trials, cost effectiveness studies, surveys, and pre-clinical research. Papers are especially invited in the areas of prescription rates, effectiveness of IM approaches, antimicrobial effects of herbal medicines, patients perspectives on antibiotics use and IM approaches, cost effectiveness of IM approaches, delayed prescription, prevention of infections and public health education.
