Artificial intelligence for sustainable solutions in combating antimicrobial resistance through data driven health innovations

  07 January 2026

Artificial intelligence is emerging as a transformative tool in combating antimicrobial resistance by supporting drug discovery, diagnostics, and surveillance. AI-driven resources enable the identification of compounds that disrupt microbial biofilms, improve detection of AMR markers from genomic and metagenomic data, and enhance monitoring systems. Advanced machine-learning and deep-learning approaches accelerate antibiotic development by predicting bacterial protein structures and enabling generative drug design, while AI-powered diagnostics support more effective AMR management. Despite current limitations, integrating human, animal, and environmental data through AI offers a comprehensive and sustainable One Health approach, with the potential to reduce costs, shorten discovery timelines, and respond more rapidly to the evolving global AMR threat.
