Rapid antimicrobial susceptibility tests performed by self-diluting microfluidic chips for drug resistance studies and point-of-care diagnostics
The study developed a microfluidic device called Self Dilution for Faster Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (SDFAST) to aid in the detection of antimicrobial resistance. The device, consisting of two layers of microchips, allows for quick and accurate dilution of antibiotics and bacterial suspensions. The device was tested on 51 clinical isolates, achieving an agreement of 92%. The method’s simplicity, rapid testing, and low sample consumption make it a promising tool for automated medical testing and point-of-care diagnosis.
