The gut microbiome: an emerging epicenter of antimicrobial resistance?

The human gut, a densely populated microbial environment, is crucial for digestion and immune system balance. However, it’s easy for harmful bacteria to acquire antimicrobial resistance genes, leading to multidrug-resistant infections. This increases healthcare costs and environmental strain. Current approaches are insufficient to prevent MDR infections, and new approaches are urgently needed to understand and combat AMR.
