The intersection of the social determinants of health and antimicrobial resistance in human populations: a systematic review
A systematic review of 17-252 papers found that social determinants of health (SDoH) significantly impact antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The study found that socioeconomic status, housing, and knowledge are determinants affecting the risk of exposure to AMR. However, there is limited evidence on the complete range of SDoH in different populations. The review suggests that policies and context-specific solutions are needed to manage upstream determinants, include population groups with limited evidence, and prioritize community-based research using co-production methods. This would help address the gap in understanding the upstream systems that negatively impact SDoH.
