Standardizing multidrug resistance definitions and visualizations to support surveillance across One Health
The study explores the use of visualizations for multidrug resistance (MDR) data in the One Health spectrum, focusing on the animal health sector. A scoping review and online survey revealed that bar charts, visual antibiograms, heat maps, and network graphs were the most common visualizations. Survey respondents preferred simplistic visualizations, and resistance to multiple antimicrobial categories was the most common. The study concludes that despite historic proposals for standardizing MDR definitions, a lack of consensus remains and that harmonization and optimization of visualizations are essential for comparisons across populations and studies.
