Sketching Antimicrobial Resistance

  17 November 2025

This awareness campaign invites the public to appreciate the hidden microbial world and recognise the shared role we all have in preserving antimicrobials. Thirty illustrators from 30 European countries have created artworks that combine science and art to tell the story of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The artworks explore themes such as what antimicrobials are, how resistance develops and spreads, the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health (One Health), and practical actions everyone can take (e.g., using antibiotics only when needed, good hygiene, proper disposal, vaccination). The campaign features a beautifully illustrated album of the artworks and a travelling public exhibition across European cities to engage citizens in a creative, accessible way.
