New WHO Collaborating Centre for Genomic Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance launched
The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially launched the WHO Collaborating Centre for Genomic Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) at the Royal Institution in London. Hosted by the Centre for Genomic Pathogen Surveillance at the Pandemic Sciences Institute, the Centre will support global efforts to expand and standardise genomic surveillance for AMR. The Centre will develop standardized laboratory protocols, bioinformatics tools, and technical guidance, contributing to WHO’s strategic priorities in tackling the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance through enhanced data generation, integration, and use. The WHO Network of Collaborating Centres on AMR is a mechanism through which WHO partners with academic and scientific institutions to support WHO’s efforts on AMR surveillance and quality standards at global, regional, and national levels. The Centre joins a growing international network of institutions working to address AMR, one of the most pressing global health challenges of our time.
