Multidrug-resistant Shigella flexneri outbreak affecting humans and non-human primates in New Mexico, USA

A large outbreak of Shigellosis, a gastrointestinal infection, occurred in Albuquerque, New Mexico, affecting both humans and non-human primates. The outbreak was multidrug-resistant, causing hospitalizations and deaths. The strain circulated in both humans and NHPs, highlighting the threat of antimicrobial resistance and the importance of genomic surveillance in a One Health framework.
