Interventions to address antimicrobial resistance: an ethical analysis of key tensions and how they apply in low- income and middle-income countries

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health issue with unresolved ethical tensions. These tensions include access and excess in the current population, personal interests versus shared interests in curbing AMR, interests of current populations versus future generations, and addressing immediate health threats like pandemics. To address these tensions, descriptive ethics methods are applied, drawing from existing evidence and experiences in low-income and middle-income countries. The authors highlight the importance of addressing these tensions to mitigate the global health problem of AMR.
