High-level Interactive Dialogue on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) – General Assembly, 75th session

The General Assembly High-Level Interactive Dialogue on Tackling AMR is an important opportunity to strengthen political commitment, take stock of progress, recommit to actions, and build back better from COVID-19 by agreeing further practical steps that can effectively address challenges to tackling AMR as part of future pandemic preparedness through a One Health approach while supporting the delivery of the SDGs.

On 29 April, AMR is returning to the UN in New York for the first time since 2016 for a High-Level Interactive Dialogue on AMR. The President of the General Assembly and the Directors General of the Tripartite on AMR (World Health Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization and World Organization for Animal Health) will open the day. There will follow high-level panel discussions on AMR in the context of COVID-19, global and national-level progress on AMR, and sustainable financing, with leaders from around the world speaking.

The event will be live-streamed on http://webtv.un.org/live/.

The event will culminate in the presentation of the Call to Action on AMR. This represents the first UN agreement on AMR since the 2016 political declaration of the High Level Meeting, and offers countries and large AMR-relevant organisations the opportunity to re-emphasise their commitment to addressing AMR at the national and global level, taking into account developments in the past five years and looking to the future.

The Call to Action on AMR brings together countries across the world to coordinate action to mitigate the growing threat of AMR. The Call to Action has already been agreed and signed by the Group of Friends on AMR, Permanent Representatives to the UN in New York from a range of Member States, and we hope that as many countries and AMR-related organisations will agree to add their signature, joining the Group and others in signalling to the world our determination to work together on AMR.
