Healthcare workers knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards antimicrobial resistance in sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis

This systematic review and meta-analysis (44 studies, >11,000 HCWs in sub-Saharan Africa) found that healthcare workers show moderate knowledge (63%) and positive attitudes (74%) toward antimicrobial resistance (AMR), but good preventive practices remain low (44%). Results varied across regions, settings, and experience levels. The study highlights an urgent need to bridge the knowledge–practice gap through targeted training, stronger policies, and One Health approaches, with future research focusing on community health workers and practical stewardship interventions.
