Emerging Antifungal Resistance in Fungal Pathogens

  10 April 2024

Fungi outbreaks have increased in recent decades, affecting humans, plants, and animals. This issue is further exacerbated by emerging antifungal drug resistance in pathogenic species. This resistance develops over time when fungi are exposed to drugs in the patient or environment. Novel resistant variants of previously susceptible fungal pathogens are evolving, while new species with antifungal resistance profiles are emerging. This review emphasizes the importance of emerging antifungal resistance in fungal pathogens and its connection to a growing public health burden.
