Citizen scientists join the fight against antimicrobial resistance

Citizen science initiatives are emerging as a valuable tool in tackling antimicrobial resistance (AMR), by actively involving the public in data collection, monitoring, and awareness efforts—particularly in areas such as environmental surveillance. These projects not only generate useful scientific insights but also enhance public understanding of AMR, making the issue more tangible and locally relevant. By engaging non-experts directly in research and education, citizen science helps bridge the gap between science and society, fosters behavioural change, and demonstrates strong potential as a scalable, community-driven component of broader One Health strategies to combat AMR.
