Antimicrobial Resistance Workshop

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threatens the effective prevention and treatment of an ever-increasing range of infections caused by bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi. AMR is an increasingly serious threat to global public health that requires action across all government sectors and society.’ World Health Organisation, Feb 2018.

AMR is a global issue that has the potential to cause catastrophic impact on health provision, leading to routine surgeries no longer being possible and previously curable diseases becoming fatal. Governments, organisations and research funders worldwide have recognised this threat and the need to interdisciplinary research to help solve the problem through the generation of new knowledge, treatments and educational tools.

During this workshop we will hear from a range of researchers at UoP and the local NHS Trust regarding their interest in this field and the current work they are undertaking. Following this will be an opportunity for us to identify new, interdisciplinary projects to develop into funding applications for UoP to contribute to the global effort to reverse AMR.
