Antimicrobial Resistance Trends, Predictors, and Burden in England: A retrospective study using the Clinical Practice Research Datalink from 2015-2021
This study examines the burden of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) on healthcare systems in the English National Health Service. It analyzed 1,036,850 hospital inpatients diagnosed with AMR between 2015 and 2021. The results showed a 10% increase in AMR between 2015 and 2020, with resistant infections causing longer hospital stays and higher costs. Patients with AMR infections died and re-hospitalized more often, with accelerated factors indicating earlier mortality and readmission. The study highlights AMR’s growing threat to healthcare, highlighting the need for effective policy and treatment.
