Antibiotic Abuse Is Causing Antimicrobial Resistance In Pakistan

Pakistan has been struggling with an antimicrobial resistance (AMR) epidemic. Extensive use and misuse of easily available, broad spectrum antibiotics and antivirals has resulted in the creation of resistant microbes immune to the available medicine. But why has this come to surface?

The culture of self-medicating and quackery is very common in Pakistan. It could reach new heights, some say up to more than 200 per cent by 2030. In the past few years, the daily dosage per person in Pakistan has significantly increased from 16.2 DDD to 19.6 DDD
