Youth as change makers on antimicrobial resistance: an evidence-based call-to-action

  21 November 2025

The commentary argues that young people represent an untapped asset in the global fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR). It reports on a co-creation process that led to a “Youth Manifesto on AMR,” involving over 90 stakeholders across sectors, and identifies four priority areas: advocacy & engagement; education & capacity-building; patient care (humans and animals); and a One Health approach. The authors highlight that despite recognition of youth in global AMR policy statements, their actual involvement is often limited to passive roles; they call for youth to be actively included in decision-making, design, and implementation of AMR strategies—particularly in low- and middle-income countries where youth engagement can help tackle inequities, brain-drain and local AMR capacities.
