Global health at crossroads: uniting together to overcome challenges, restore trust and advance priorities for a sustainable future

This article highlights that global health is facing a historic convergence of challenges—from climate change, conflicts, pandemics, and natural disasters to rising antimicrobial resistance, misinformation, and widening inequities—that together threaten human wellbeing and the stability of health systems worldwide. The authors argue that these crises have also eroded public trust in science and institutions, undermining collective capacity to respond effectively. They call for renewed global cooperation grounded in transparency, scientific integrity, and shared responsibility, combined with sustainable investment in resilient health systems, universal emergency preparedness, and the widespread adoption of One Health principles. Strengthening global governance, ensuring ethical and responsible use of AI, prioritizing vulnerable populations, and rebuilding trust between science, policymakers, and the public are presented as essential steps to secure a healthier, fairer, and more sustainable future for all.
