Community Based Surveillance for AMR Monitoring: Significance, Requirements and Feasibility in LMICS
Community-based surveillance is crucial for monitoring antimicrobial resistance (AMR) trends and facilitating evidence-based interventions. However, many low and middle-income countries lack the necessary systems and resources for effective surveillance. To plan for community-based AMR surveillance, countries should establish mechanisms such as strong governance, surveillance infrastructure, skilled human resources, and funding. The World Health Organization and partners recommend advancing community-based AMR surveillance and integrating information from humans, animals, and ecosystems. Prioritizing these efforts is essential for future AMR surveillance.
