Prevalence and anti-microbial susceptibility of hospital acquired infections in an Egyptian tertiary care hospital

  23 May 2025

The study at Al-Galaa Military Medical Complex analyzed 3011 clinical isolates from different wards and ICUs from January 2022 to December 2023. It found higher infection rates in critical care areas, with Gram-negative bacteria being the predominant pathogens. High antibiotic resistance rates were observed, particularly to amoxicillin/clavulanic acid and ampicillin/sulbactam. Carbapenems were also found to be resistant in over half of patients. The study emphasizes the need for developing strategies to prevent infections and implement antimicrobial stewardship initiatives tailored to local resistance trends.
