Global knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards antimicrobial resistance among healthcare workers: a systematic review and meta-analysis

  15 May 2025

The study evaluates the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of healthcare workers (HCWs) towards antimicrobial resistance (AMR). A meta-analysis of 108 studies found that 56.5% of HCWs had good knowledge of AMR, with the highest prevalence in Europe. Positive attitudes were reported in 60.4%, with the highest prevalence in the Eastern Mediterranean Region and among those with less than five years of experience. Good practices were observed in 48.5%, with the highest adherence in Europe. Younger HCWs (under 30 years) showed better KAP scores across all domains. The findings highlight the need for targeted interventions to enhance HCWs’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices.
