Antimicrobial resistance: Preventing an antibiotic apocalypse
London (UK)
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a pervasive and persistent reality that, left unchecked, threatens the foundations of modern medicine. The cost of inaction is great: there is a very real risk of returning to a pre-antibiotic era within one or two generations as infectious diseases become more common and more dangerous.
Yet despite the scale of the problem, the world’s response to date has fallen far short of what is needed.
How can we de-risk investment into research and development in this area to maximise progress? At the same time, how can we reduce inappropriate demand and use for antibiotics around the world? What obstructions threaten to hold back change?
The AMR Summit will bring together policymakers, researchers, academics and pharmaceutical-industry leaders for a frank discussion to catalyse progress towards bringing AMR under control.
